Just a Reminder…

Picture 3Immigration requires a certain daring and initiative.

From where I sit, these are virtues.

Imagine our nation awash with the virtuous.

And then there’s this:

Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.
“Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!” cries she
With silent lips. “Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”

So let’s all relax a little.

With compliments – and happy Thanksgiving (from the descendent of an immigrant).

  1. Forgetting we are a nation of immigrants, many use the term “American Exceptionalism” as some sort of global putdown that on its face arrogantly suggests we are better than anybody else, anywhere. This jingoistic phrase is most irritating and I’d be just as happy if we instead touted the fact we here are indeed able to “breathe free.” And after all, that’s enough.

Just ordered your book, “Across the Bloody Chasm” on “AmazonSmile,” a cooperative venture between the Civil War Trust and Amazon wherein CWT gets a portion of the sale price.
Very much look forward to the book..

    Love your work.. Clark

    1. Thanks for the Comment, Clark – and I tend to agree. And thank you especially for ordering my book through Amazon Smile! I have my account set up in the same way (it benefits a local animal shelter). I certainly approve of your connection with the Civil War Trust. As I am sure you know – I support them with great enthusiasm. I hope you enjoy the book!
