I love having John on the show…the conversation is always engaging - and hell…John is just a cool guy who knows his stuff and has a real knack for digital history. As some of you might know, every year I take my Civil War history students to Gettysburg for a field trip. Part of that experience is having John take us around the battlefield to little known spots where the US Army had some thing or another going on during both WWI and WWII. It’s one of the highlights of the trip and the kids really enjoy it. This year we couldn’t go because of the global pandemic and resulting lockdown. So I asked John to come on and discuss what we would have seen…

We discuss:

  • Why the government gets to use the park for military purposes

  • Camp Colt and the United States Army

  • The United States Marine Corps and Pickett’s Charge (yes…for real, with planes and everything

  • German POWs

  • Camp Sharpe and the Psycho Boys (no kidding)

  • Silver linings and opportunities for digital history

  • My promise to get on board with Tik Tok

You can have a listen right here…

John does a LOT of great work with digital history - so make sure to follow him on the usual suspects: Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, and Instagram. And pay attention - he does a lot of interactive live streaming. AND…don’t forget to subscribe to The Rogue Historian Podcast on Apple Podcasts or your favorite app so you never ever ever ever miss a show. That would be dumb.

With compliments,

Keith
